Techno speaks its own language: in the cosmos of electronic music ‘Vintage’ does not represent shallow retro-style, but rather is one of the most precious adjuncts concerning electronic sound producers.

Of course, it centres on the intrinsic values of the equipment. Christoph Abele aka caTekk is very young but nevertheless an adept. For years not only resident-DJ of the legendary Club ‘Flex’ in Vienna but also Live-Act, sound engineer and together with his colleague Christopher Groove a promising producer-duo. Even though caTekk and Christopher Groove have only been working together since early 2010, they already produced for international scene headliners such as Felix Da Housecat or Marco Bailey. However, caTekk not only produces thrilling pieces for the just named heroes – his own releases on record labels such as Flex Schallplatten, Fountain Music or Estrela can be found in countless vinyl bags and DJ-charts.

Now the label Houztekk Records is releasing a long hidden jewel from caTekk’s live-repertoire. “Vintage Love” is created for the peak-time – it is not an overheating masher with cheap razzmatazz, but a deep Techno-bassmonster with pulsating breaks in a prodigious organic gown, which sounds as being tailored in Chicago or Detroit. Another caTekk-treasure named „Cogwheel Dancing“ also managed to get on the EP. This track easily teaches worn out, cranked out minimal-tracks, imposed on us everywhere, how to cite such aesthetics indeed but to revaluate them via incredible groove and splendid subtile modulations. Forcfully both pieces show the magnitude of caTekk as a producer. Every sound is rich in detail and powerful, has sufficient room and all traces are perfectly layered. So the love in the title is absolutely to be taken literally.

Patrick Pulsinger is the second act in league and as producer an unerring pass. A man, who as Cheap Records-legend and international Techno-star (M-Plant, R&S, Disko B, Compost, etc.) does not need an introduction. His remix of „Vintage Love“ deals with the subject from a completely different view. Pulsinger’s concentration on studio work during the last years is explicitly to hear. Here engines steam in heaps which the Austrian Techno-figurehead already used for own tracks and remittance works. Not only acts such as Hercules & Love Affair or Elektro Guzzi were produced with it. Major focus is put on impressive jazzy vintage-organ-chords and firm percussions – delicate sounds and vocals are drawn in. All breathes in a deep, organic and “rough” way, in a positive sense. Definitely something for gourmets.

The mastering of Dubplates & Mastering (Berlin) additionally improved the three tracks. The bouquet of these releases is like that of good wine: you positively taste the single flavours and feel the endorphins bubble.

Presse Deutsch:

Christoph Abele is caTekk – DJ, producer and perfectionist.

Both as a DJ and as a producer, caTekk is renowned for his unerring instinct for creating a high level of suspense, for his sophisticated technique and his almost infantile playfulness. What matters to him are harmony, variety and expressing grand emotions, rather than superficial, stereotypical categories such as minimal, techno or electro.

caTekk´s move from Salzburg to Vienna in 2004 marked the beginning of a successful DJ-career. Immediately after his arrival in the capital, caTekk became a resident in the legendary Viennese club Flex, (thereby adding to the city´s electronic club scene). Together with Crazy Sonic and Ken Hayakawa, new projects were called into existence including the in-house label Flexschallplatten and the event series Alt Ctrl.

2010 marks the beginning of a close collaboration with his friend and mentor Christopher Groove. In addition to working on their own projects, caTekk and Christopher Groove also work with internationally renowned artists such as Felix Da Housecat and Marco Bailey. New ideas drawn from club-inspired experiences are constantly unfolding in the studio.

Patrick Pulsinger born 1970 in Weissenfels, former GDR, Pulsinger produces music since more than 18 years and is well known in many contexts, due to a broad range of international releases and live appearances.

The first solo releases on Disko B in early and mid 90`s evolved around the basic, machine and analogue synth driven idea of techno in its purest sense. The album Porno (Disko B), released in 1995, is considered as one of the classic techno albums of the 90´s and is still a favorite amongst collectors and techno enthusiasts. The combination of dance and listening music with a great variety in style, as well as the use of electronic and natural instruments with a hint of jazz is mostly reflected in parts of the „Dogmatic Sequences Series“, 1994 – 2006 (Disko B), but is also shown in productions for other labels like Cheap Records, Compost, M plant, R&S, Morbid, Trust, Vortex, etc.

Extensive research in analogue recording techniques, improvised music and exchange of musical ideas with jazz musicians brought about numerous collaborations and the release of the album „Easy to assemble – Hard to take apart“ (form and function/zomba) in 2002 and the all analogue project dp-S, together with Werner Dafeldecker. „Conjecture“ (BigBeak Recordings) was released on vinyl album in late 2009.

After his return from New York in 1993, Pulsinger founded the label Cheap Records together with Erdem Tunakan. Whereas it served as a playground for their own productions in the beginning, it later became a highly acclaimed, internationally recognized imprint for artists like Mika Vaino, Robert Hood, Christopher Just, Gerhard Potuznik, Louie Austen, Phillip Quehenberger, Susanne Brokesch, August Engkilde, Take Rodriguez and many more. Pulsinger was involved as co-writer and producer in many diverse projects on Cheap Records. The releases of Oebles, IO, Love The Machines, Restaurant Tracks, Lazermusik, Showroom Recordings, Sluts ‘n strings & 909 etc. reflect the wide scope that made the label home to so many different musical styles and bold experimentations, which took its protagonists around the globe as DJs and live-acts.
